5 Common Storage Shed Mistakes

The reason to buy a backyard storage shed is so that you have added convenience, more storage space, and the ability to stay organized and clutter free. However, we tend to treat our backyard sheds as a place where we can throw a whole bunch of junk and then shut the door. Once you get into that habit, it is frustrating to find anything, things get lost and ruined, and you dread having to open the doors.

Well, it's time to re-evaluate how you are using your shed and avoid these common shed organization mistakes. Here are some common mistakes that you should avoid.

  1. Not using proper storage materials. You don’t want to create stacks of items with fragile things towards the bottom. You don’t want to use flimsy boxes or newspapers that could break down. You may want to consider stacking storage items on top of pallets to keep your items away from weather and pests.
  2. Overpacking. Filling your shed with as many items as will fit means that you can’t ever access those items. A shed can be a great place to store the weedwacker until it gets pushed to the back, and you have to move thirty items to even get to the weedwacker. The less stuff you have, the easier it is to keep it organized.
  3. Lack of organization. Keep similar items grouped together. Utilize some shed organization strategies. If you stack anything in boxes, be sure to label them clearly so that you can easily find whatever it is that you are looking for. Come up with a system that works well for you and your family.
  4. Never cleaning. You clean every room in your house regularly; however, no one ever gets around to cleaning their shed. Regular cleaning can keep your shed looking nice and keep all of your storage items in great condition. You will need to implement some pest control since it is an outdoor space, and you will need to keep up with it. If you don’t like being in your storage shed because it is dirty, you will not utilize it to its full capabilities.
  5. Not using it effectively. There are no rules as to what you have to do with your own backyard storage shed. You can pack it full of tools, or you can create a gorgeous she shed. It is your shed that you purchased, and you should use it in whatever way makes the most sense for you!Browse Our Storage Buildings
